Using Ad-Hoc H.323 at ESnet
Back to Main ECS Video Page

Benefits:

  1. Individual participant layout control using far end camera controls
    a.  Use the up or down control arrows to view different layouts
    b.  Use the left and right control arrows to shift the order of the participants in a layout
  2. People can watch the stream of the meeting using Quicktime or RealPlayer.
  3. You can secure your meetings with your own PIN.
  4. New Web Conferencing Option allows for viewing of content within the steaming interface.
  5. Refer to Codian’s Quickstart Guide for more details (PDF file).

Notes:

  1. There is no assured privacy.  If desire privacy, pick a Conference ID that will be hard to guess and create a password for the conference.
  2. There is no guaranteed space.  This is first come first served, best effort service.  If you cannot connect wait and try again.
  3. Open Source clients (Gnomemeeting, OhPhoneX, X-Meeting, Ekiga) must restrict their bandwidth to 768 kbps.
  4. You will need to be connected to an ESnet Gatekeeper.  Visit http://www.ecs.es.net to register as a user.

Quick Meeting Guide

  1. Using the information from your registration email, input the Gatekeeper Node Name, E.164 number, and H.323 alias into your system settings.
  2. To join or create a meeting, enter the prefix of the desired MCU into your endpoint. (82, 85, or 88)
  3. After entering the MCU prefix, input the Conference ID that you’d like to join or create.  A Conference ID can be any combination of numbers.
  4. Press the connect button on your system.
  5. Typically you can bring up a DTMF keypad by pressing either # or * buttons on your remote.  Using the DTMF tones, follow the instructions of the auto-attendant to create a password for your meeting or press # to continue without a password.
  6. Enjoy the meeting!

Example:  82x, where x is the Conference ID, joins or creates meeting x on Codian MCU 1.
85x, where x is the Conference ID, joins or creates meeting x on Codian MCU 2.
88x, where x is the Conference ID, joins or creates meeting x on Codian MCU 3.
